Senior Amalia Vogler and junior Charlene Charles each represented the JU track & field squad on the Atlantic Sun Conference indoor Scholar-Athlete team.
Charles (3.83) and Vogler (3.97) each posted a near perfect grade point average in the classroom as they also helped the Dolphins win their seventh straight A-Sun indoor title on Feb. 18.
“Charlene and Amalia are amongst the many women in our program that have been able to achieve at very high levels both on the track and in the classroom,” JU head coach Ron Grigg said. “It is always nice when members of our program receive recognition for meeting the true definition of a student-athlete.”
At the indoor meet, Charles scored 24 points by herself for the Dolphins. She won the long jump (19’0.75”) at the indoor meet and earned all-conference in the high jump (5’5”, 3rd). Charles also scored points in the 60 (7.73 8th), 60 hurdles (8.72, 5th) and 200 (25.29, 8th).
Off the track, the communications major has earned A-Sun all-academic honors twice and was named to the Dean’s List last year.
Vogler ran a leg of the winning Distance Medley at the indoor meet that had an A-Sun record time of 11:47.90. She also scored points in the 800-meter (2:17.27, 5th).
Vogler, a marketing major, has been named to the President’s List and A-Sun all-academic team all three years she has been at JU.
The Dolphins are currently at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville starting the outdoor season with the UNF Spring Break Open. Fans can follow the action through live results at halfmiletiming.com.
